Selling the ConceptI'm glad they didn't keep some of these ideas!

Before it was called Scooby Doo, the show had a working title of "Mystery Five" , and Scooby's name was "Too Much." Actually, everyone had different names! (see picture at right.)

Once Hanna - Barbera started developing Scooby-Doo, they needed to sell the idea to the networks. Before investing big bucks in actually producing the show, the made up drawings of what the show might look like. This picture is a work in progress. Linda (Velma) is pictured wearing a pendant and not needing glasses! "Too Much" (Scooby) does not have spots yet. W.W. (Shaggy) has more of a formal beard, and Geoff (Freddy) has red hair! Some of the ideas were already in place like Freddy's ascot, but it's hard to picture how different the show would have looked if this concept had been approved!

(or is that Ronnie)

Once Fred Silverman got the idea to focus the show around the newly renamed Scooby, things began to change.

This is an action scene with the characters drawn from the concept above. We can see that the personalities were already in place, even if the looks were not!

Now this is starting to look like the gang we know and love! Freddy's got his blond hair and Velma's got her glasses.

.

Scooby still does not have his spots! But he already has a well defined personality!
